Opp's statewide bandh against Badkagaon on Oct 24

Proposed Sankalp Yatra called by the opposing parties on October 17 against Badkagaon firing which took place on October 1 will now be organized on October 19. The decision was taken during a joint meeting called by the opposition parties at Bihar Club in Ranchi on Thursday to review the statewide bandh called by them on October 24.

“Due to the prior engagements of JDU, we have decided to organise Sankalp Yatra on October 19 while the proposed statewide bandh called by the opposition parties against Badkagaon incident will remain as it is,” said former union minister and Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay.

The meeting was basically organised to push these two programmes and also to chalk out further plan of action so that we can succeed in mobilising more and more people all over the State against this Government, he added.

The best part of this meeting was that representatives of CPI (Ml) were also present during it, said Sahay.

“A detailed workout by more than the representatives of five political parties was done to press the slogan of ‘Raghubar Hatao-Jharkhand Bachao’ among the people,” added the former Union Minister.

Sahay said the Opposition parties will try to push their demands of judicial inquiry into the Badkagaon firing incident, a compensation of Rs25 lakh to each family members and employment to at least one person in the family.

“Provisions of land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Act of 2013 is completely being overlooked by this government only to benefit the contractors,” said Sahay.

This Government has been using forces like private Goondas, he said.

When people are rising to demand compensation against their land according to the provisions of land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Act of 2013, they are terrorised and killed by the police, he said. “Remaining parts of the State will be pushed towards Maoism through such incidents,” said Sahay.

As many as four people got killed and several others were injured when the ongoing protest of Badkagaon residents in Hazaribagh demanding to seize work at NTPC coal mining project turned ugly and security forces had to resort to firing on an irate mob trying to abduct senior officials. Badkagaon MlA Nirmala Devi along with the villagers was sitting on ‘Kafan Satyagraha’ at Chirudih village to oppose the land acquisition by the NTPC since September 15.
