Opposition-social groups to protest against land issue

Opposition parties along with social and tribal groups would stage a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan on November 13 protesting against the policies and acts of the BJP-led Government. The day-long sit-in would highlight plight of farmers and land losers in the State.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, JVM chief Babulal Marandi said that the time has come for unity of different voices. “We have been raising the critical condition of farmers and tribals whose lands have been taken away in the name of development across the State on different platforms. Now, the time is to come together and raise your voice collectively so that the Government listens to it,” said the former Chief Minister.

Besides leaders from Congress’ Subodh Kant Sahay and KD Singh of the left, prominent tribal leaders in the form of Karma Oraon, Prem Shahi Munda, Dayamani Barla and several others were also present to give the protest a socio-political taste.

“The Government is consistently destroying the very basis of adivasi and moolvasi through its policies and deeds. We have seen what happened to the CNT-SPT Act, domicile policy and land acquisition legislations in the State. When people came out in protest they had to face police bullet. Till date hundreds of cases are pending against the protestors of Gola, Badkagaon, Khunti,” said Sahay.

Besides, issue of a series of children deaths in the want of food and medicines would also be highlighted. The leaders would hand over a memorandum to the Governor demanding taking back the cases filed against the protestors and calling for a judicial probe into the firing incidents.
