Opposition knocks Governorv's door over Adani plant

Opposition leaders in the leadership JVM chief Babulal Marandi have approached Raj Bhawan, calling the public hearings having taken place in the favour of Adani Power plant’s proposed in Godda and demanded a high-level probe into false implication of party’s principal general secretary and Poraiyahat legislator Pradeep Yadav in the same case.

Marandi while leading a delegation comprising of   Congress State chief Sukhdeo Bhagat and JMM general secretary Suprio Bhattacharya met Governor Droupadi Murmu on Saturday handed over a memorandum giving details of the ‘atrocities’ having taken place at the plant site.

“It is a well known fact that Pradeep Yadav is an outspoken leader of Godda area and has been raising concerns of the people inside and outside the Assembly. He has been protesting against the power plant in Godda within democratic framework. Since the Government was taking all the decisions there to ensure benefits to Adani Power by shelving the set rules and regulations, Yadav’s protest was suppressed and he is being wrongly framed and slapped with irrelevant charges,” said the former Chief Minister.

The MlA is currently in jail after being arrested from the protest site in Godda. The District administration has charged him for creating nuisance, provocation and obstructing Government officials in delivering their duty. Yadav, who was shifted from Godda to Ranchi on medical grounds and also to attend special session of the Assembly, could not acquire permission in time to take part in the House proceedings.

Marandi in his paper handed over to the Governor, decried the Government and the administration for citing false incidents to book Yadav. “There are several contradictions in the statements and FIR filed by the officials. We have put forth all the facts before the Governor and also the violations of the CNT and SPT Act provisions. We have demanded setting up a three-member high level inquiry team of the IPS officials or by independent probe agency to verify the charges being made,” said Marandi and reiterated that the land acquisition currently continuing for the company was against the law.

The party has also planned statewide protest against the overall land acquisition policy of the Government and amendments being made in the twin tenancy acts. A blockade has been called on May 18 over the issue.
