Opp ups ante on EC order, tenancy

The Opposition following Governor Droupadi Murmu returning the CNT-SPT amendment Bills to the Government for reconsideration, has warned Chief Minister Raghubar Das of dire consequences if he tries to reintroduce the legislations.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha working president and leader of Opposition Hemant Soren demanded the Government to recall the twin Bills forever before throwing the warning.

“Take the Bills back immediately and don’t ever dare to give it a try again so that the State is put on fire. The JMM, since the beginning, has been opposing the Bills right from the streets to the Assembly due to which it became possible today that such a step has been taken by the Governor,” said Soren while talking to mediapersons at his official residence on Monday.

Soren also asked the State Government to redefine the domicile policy as it has closed the doors of getting Government jobs for the local youths and went on alleging that the Raghubar Das Government, far away from the public interest, has been playing in the hands of industrialists with a motive of fulfilling their agenda.

The Congress also sang similar tunes when party State president Sukhdeo Bhagat termed the tenancy laws as protective shield for the tribals. “With the Government tweaking the CNT-SPT Bills the protection available to tribal people in the State has gone. Changing nature of agriculture land was the decision which has pained the community the most and the Governor was also worried. She thus worked as per the sentiments of the people.”

Another senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay also lauded the Governor’s decision. “For last one year Jharkhand has reached to the boiling point due to the CNT-SPT amendments. This has put very existence of the tribal community at risk. The State was formed to protect tribal culture, custom and their rights but the amendments meant to handover assets of the State in the form of land and mineral wealth to capitalist friends of the BJP who funded it during 2014 elections. Das has got another chance to correct his misdeed and if he does not improve and dares to bring it again then no one can save him from ulgulan (total revolt),” said Sahay.

Sahay also called upon the BJP to seek resignation from Chief Minister Raghubar Das for his alleged involvement in the Rajya Sabha horse trading case.

He also charged the Government with suppressing the probe ordered by the Election Commission into the 2016 Rajya Sabha elections. “The EC wrote to the State Government on June 13 itself seeking probe into the roles played by ADG Anurag Gupta and advisor to the CM Ajay Kumar. They kept mum and immediately transferred Anurag Gupta to head the Vigilance Department which was supposed to investigate the matter. So far no action has been initiated against them. If the BJP has an iota of morality, it should seek resignation of the CM for disrespecting a Constitutional body,” he said.

Sahay also charged the CM for his involvement in the horse trading by citing the CD that had surfaced soon after the Rajya Sabha poll last year. Based on the inputs, the Election Commission has written for a probe into the allegations.
