Intensifying its protest against the recent political developments and the working of the NDA Government in Jharkhand, the Opposition parties on Monday staged a dharna at Raj Bhawan. led by JMM, it was supported by JVM, RJD as well as the left parties. Remarkably, the Congress kept itself away from the dharna citing differences on some issues taken up by regional Opposition parties.
The dharna was attended by former Chief Ministers Hemant Soren and Babulal Marandi, ex- MP Bhuneshwar Mehta, former minister Haji Hussain Ansari JVM MlA Pradeep Yadav along with other leaders of their parties and their supporters.
Marandi during his address alleged that the BJP was desperate to touch the magic figure. “In order to strengthen its own house, the BJP is trying to set others house on fire,” said Marandi. We will never let the ordinance on land acquisition brought by Modi government at the centre get implemented here in Jharkhand, he added.
Marandi however, alleged Congress party of supporting BJP indirectly. “The way Congress party has been giving excuses for not joining us; it appears that it was supporting the BJP either directly or indirectly,” he said.
Soren on the other hand, said that the present government was a government of corporate houses which cannot understand the anguish and pain of the poor. “Poor men could never get benefitted by this government,” Soren said.
Referring to the domicile policy, Soren also alleged that even after more than a month of forming the government in the state, it has failed to decide the domicile policy. “This government is only making announcements while nothing is being brought on the ground in the last one month,” he added.
Soren also announced that the JMM, along with the other opposition parties in the state, will conduct phase wise movement against the present government. Meanwhile the Congress alleging lack of coordination among the opposition parties said that being a National party their agenda cannot always match with the regional parties.
The JMM and JVM however, said that the Congress had not yet fully understood the issue of domicile. “Our moral support will always be there with the opposition parties but, being a National Party, we have their own stand on several issues which cannot always match with the regional parties,” said state Congress President Sukhdeo Bhagat. According to Bhagat, a formal meeting definitely took place with them and was decided that the agenda will be set on mutual understanding, but a proper coordination among the parties was lacking which forced us to keep away from the move.
