Now, it will not be easy to disobey traffic rules and run away after committing crimes in Ranchi as new surveillance system is in the offing to check over speeding and incidents of crime in Ranchi.
According to police officials, this system especially will help in curbing incidents of crime done by the biker’s gang, which is quite active in Ranchi for the last few years.
“Basically we are targeting bikers who commit crimes on their bikes and this system will help in creating deterrence among the bikers that they might be caught if they try to involve themselves in the incidents of snatching and other anti-social activities,” said Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh.
The new surveillance system was tested in JAP-I ground on Saturday in presence of senior police officials like Ranchi Range DIG, SSP Ranchi, Traffic SP and various police officials who also tried to understand the system.
The system is fitted with one or more cameras to it though which it can identify over speeding vehicles registering its number and colour along with the latitude and longitude where it over-speeded. A picture of it with the current speed of the vehicle is also registered at the time of over speeding
As soon as a vehicle is found over speeding, it will be caught by the new surveillance system and its number and colour will be fed into the system along with its picture and the latitude and longitude. The system itself raises an alarm following which barricading could be done on the next square to catch it.
“The system will itself read the speeding vehicle, identify its number and colour with a photograph of it, on the basis of which challan could be issued against it,” said the Traffic SP. It will decrease police-public interference as challan is directly issued by the system, he said.
If these cameras are connected with Police Control Room, activities could be monitored by the Traffic Police and could also read over speeding vehicles due to which it would not be possible for anyone to dodge the police.
“As soon as a vehicle breaks rule in some other district, an alarm is raised in Ranchi and the number and colour is fed into the machine. As soon as the vehicle enters into Ranchi, the machine will automatically locate the vehicle as soon as it comes under the camera through its number and colour raising an alarm following which it could be seized,” said the Traffic SP.
Ranjan however, said that the system was at a very early stage under which cameras will be installed thorough the city connected through these machines which will also help in curbing rime in the city.
