Looking at sensitivity of constituencies especially falling into the LWE districts of the State the Election Commission has directed mobile operators to improve mobile and Internet connectivity in such pockets.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand Vinay Kumar Chaubey on Tuesday held a meeting with all service providers where shadow areas came for discussion.
“The operators have been told to provide and improve connectivity in the shadow areas of the State besides covering every booth undergoing poll. They have been told to remove any technical difficulty coming in the way. Every polling booth has to be covered by mobile connectivity,” said the official.
Later Chief Electoral Officer L Khiyangte held a meeting via video conferencing with all the district electoral officers where he instructed them to ensure compliance of the model code of conduct. He was particular about publication of biased news material in news papers on the cost of Government exchequer and misuse of Government’s mass media.
Photograph of any Minister or political party leader appearing on Government websites has to be removed on immediate basis. Flying squads and similar teams formed to check any such malpractice have to be activated. At least 10 per cent polling booths are to be webcasted.
The CEO also instructed the DEOs to run awareness campaign for the voters and political parties about model code of conduct and C-vigil app. STF by the police has been formed to register any complaint. Designated pink booths would see only women polling officials on duty.
The CEO also held a separate meeting with the members of the civil society and urged them to take part in the election process. He also told the members to encourage others to vote and keep an eye on the conduct of the campaigning.
On the other hand a delegation of the JVM headed by its general secretary Bandhu Tirkey met the CEO and urged him to keep some of the police officials away from the election process.
“There are serious charges against DGP DK Pandey and ADG Anurag Gupta for misuse of their positions. Their presence may give undue favour to a particular political party. We have petitioned for keeping them away until the polls are over,” said Tirkey.
