Decision irks parents, students

The Vinoba Bhave University administration has decided to have online registration system for Degree Part I students from the current session 2014-17. The decision has irked students who alleged that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gurdeep Singh, who was in ISM Dhanbad before this new assignment, had done it without consulting or taking approval of any statutory body of the university.

After notification of this decision, the VC and Pro VC Dr MP Sinha had said that it is an initiative which would make the students computer friendly and they would know how to fill forms online because nowadays most of the employers invite applications through this mode. Besides this it will save their time which gets wasted in long queues on college counters.

October 30 is the last date for filling of registration forms for the students of Degree part I session 2014-17. last year more than 1 lakh students were in Degree part I and this year it is expected that it will cross 1.25 lakhs. Only 23 days are left and as per the sources less than 25,000 students had filled the form till now. It means in rest three weeks about 1 lakh students will have to fill their forms online.

The decision which was said to be taken to give relief to the students has now started giving pain to both students and guardians. An irked student leader said to The Pioneer,  “VBU is not ISM Dhanbad where all students have their own laptops and a Wi-Fi campu. Here the colleges are scattered in remote areas where electricity is a major problem and due to internet link failures even banking works get hampered sometimes for weeks.”

One section of the society is pleased with this decision and it is of those who run cyber cafes. Those who have laptops or desktops are also visiting cyber cafes because with the filled registration form they have to submit scanned copies of their mark sheet, migration, admit card, proof of admission in the college and taking a print of filling form by paying a good amount to the cafes because generally people do not keep scanner and printer in their houses.

Two months ago the VBU administration had announced that the colleges will assist the students in filling forms online. A teacher said that there is no electricity in his college since last three years due to non-payment of bill then how can we help the students. Most of the colleges are taking filled forms from the students in a hope that the university administration will change its decision and lastly it will accept forms both online and offline
