The Giridih Police arrested a dreaded criminal allegedly involved in the recent firing over the Giridih Jailor’s vehicle. The perpetrator, Ashish Kumar Shah, son of Prakash Sah, is said to be a resident of Margomunda in Deoghar district of Jharkhand. The police team has also recovered a country-made pistol, one live cartridge, two magazines, a cell phone and a motorbike from his possession.

“Besides, his involvement in various criminal activities across the region, Shah was associated with a group of contract killers. On July 12, Shah was released on bail after two days imprisonment from Giridih Central Jail,” said the Giridih Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anil Kumar Singh, who led the Special Investigating Team meant to probe into the matter. Singh said that besides his involvement in other cases, Shah was wanted in Jamtara Town PS case number 99/2020.

The district police had a tip-off that Shah along with a few other criminals were seen in a dreaded area near Usri bridge, close to the Giridih – Dhanbad main road, under Giridih Mufassil police station area on Sunday evening. Soon after getting information, the police team visited the suspected areas and launched a massive manhunt, though Shah was arrested about 50 meters from the breeze, a police officer said.

On July 20, two unidentified armed criminals had opened fire on the vehicle of the Giridih Jailor, Pramod Kumar. The incident took place at around 1: 15 pm when the Jail officer, along with few other staff, was on their way to Giridih Court for official work. The Jail officer, though, remained unhurt.
