Palamu police have nabbed and jailed an extortionist who gave extortion calls to a Deputy Collector. DSP Prabhat Ranjan Barwar informed about this on Sunday and said that the officer, Santosh Kumar Gupta, is at present posted in Chaibasa. Gupta was transferred from Palamu’s Tarhassi block to Chaibasa where he was serving as BDO.

A Kekargarh village youth Pardip Kumar Yadav used to give extortion calls to Gupta for `15 lakh, said Barwar. Gupta was getting this extortion calls in Chaibasa who mustered the courage and complained to Palamu police for relief. Barwar said Palamu police took the complaint with all seriousness and started tracking the caller.

Barwar said Yadav used to describe himself as sub-zonal commander of PlFI which was nothing but a masquerading of him to create an aura of fear and terror in the mind of Gupta.

Palamu police used its technical interception and call details as Gupta had given the police the number from which he used to get the calls. On Saturday Yadav was at barrage in Panki and the police made no mistake and overpowered him.

Barwar said police recovered the most vital thing the SIM with which he used to calls to Gupta and have seized Yadav’s cell phone.
