Amid the ongoing criticism of Dhanbad police for its alleged failure after loot at a jewellery shop two days ago ,the  police on Tuesday morning foiled an attempt to loot at office of private finance company Muthoot Fincorp located on Matkuria Road  opposite to the Bara Gurudwara under Bank More police station here.

One dacoit  was also shot dead in exchange of fire and two have been arrested by police though two others managed to escape .

The attempt of loot was foiled due to swift action of Bank More police officer- In- charge PK Singh, who reached on spot running  from the police station along with two jawans within minutes after he was informed of the incident. More police personnel too reached, giving back up to Singh and surrounded the building with the available man power .While police was doing this, one of the criminals opened  fire on police and in exchange of fire he was shot dead .

All criminals had arms with them as police recovered loaded semiautomatic weapons from the possession of the deceased and arrested criminals.

Talking to the media later in the day, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dhanbad, Sanjeev Kumar said, "The criminals have several fake identity documents with them besides international numbers for communication among themselves. One of the arrested persons having documents of Nirmal Singh Pawar from MP, is actually Ashif of Samastipur Bihar and other is Gunjan alias Raghaw from Ranchi. The deceased criminal has been named as Robert alias Rabbit by those arrested".

However, we still believe that actual facts would come to fore while interrogation of the criminals, said the SSP.

Initial probe suggests that they were in the area since last ten days and had hired a room in Dhansar area and were engaged in recce of the target. Sources said the owner of the house has also been picked up by police for interrogation.

The SSP said that the criminals had not expected that police would reach on spot within minutes so opened fire on the police party as they approached.

About eight to 10 rounds were fired from criminals and in response police fired four rounds, in which one criminal was killed, said the SSP replying to a query of media persons.

Police seized bags full with cutting equipment, fake number plates that could easily be taken on two wheelers and two motorcycles from the incident spot.

The SSP said the body of the deceased criminal has been sent for post-mortem. He said the police party would be rewarded appropriately.
