Officials, FJCCI to discuss veggie price surge on 24

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has sent a formal request to the largest trade body in the State, Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) to sit on July 24 and discuss ways of controlling sudden rise in green vegetable prices over last one fortnight

Department Minister Saryu Roy had directed officials to organise a meeting with trade bodies for controlling veggie price surge, specially the tomato. The largest trade body in the State, FJCCI however said that though the Chamber didn’t have so many things to suggest, it was there to try its best in helping the department in tackling the issue.

“We have no records of vegetable producers and we can offer only little help to the department in this regard. However, we will start collecting data once the department approaches to us,” said FJCCI President Vinay Agrawal. However, Saryu Roy pointed out that the FJCCI was extremely helpful in controlling price hike, as most of those traders importing vegetable from other States were either members of largest trade body, or somehow associated with it. “We want them to help us, as everytime the department has conducted any raids on hoarders or importers; the FJCCI has come forward crying in favour of those traders with one reason or the other. We don’t require any data from them. We only want their support in helping us controlling price hike in different ways,” said Roy on Friday.

Notably, tomato which had started speaking its value from a fortnight ago itself when it was available at around Rs 40-50 per Kg is available anywhere between Rs 60-80 per Kg since at least last one week in different places in Ranchi and many other district headquarters in State. None of the green vegetable including brinjal, bitter guard (Karela), ridge guard (Tori/Toroi), snake guard (Parwal), lady finger (Bhindi) are available at less than Rs 40 per Kg in the market.
