National University of Study and Research in law (NUSRl), Ranchi, VC, Dr. BC Nirmal along with other college administration staffs consulted Jharkhand High Court (HC), Chief Justice, PK Mohanty, who happens to be the Chancellor of the university, on Tuesday.
The VC said that the Chief Justice has been apprised of all the ongoing campus activities and appropriate action will be taken as per the directives received.
“As a VC, I have been instructed to take action against the agitating students but without administration support I cannot take any stringent action. I will plan out accordingly after consulting the college administrative staff members. For every matter I cannot drag the CM and the Chief Justice and compel them to visit the campus,” Nirmal added.
The VC has also refused to address the agitating students as, according to him, they are raising some profligate issues.
On the other hand, more than 600 students continued their protest against the authorities on NUSRl campus with a list of demands. On second day as well, the students kept the university main gate locked demanding immediate clearance of their long pending issues.
Protesting students unanimously added that being a National law University established by the State Act, students will only discuss the issues with the Chief Minister and the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, the Chancellor of NUSRl.
“Since 2010, all students are being bluffed. With the promise to grant `500 cr to the university only `50 cr was given in the name of development. Despite several written assurances by concerned authorities, the present administration seems ignorant of the real issues. Students are being targeted to create chaos on campus. None of teaching faculties are either concerned with our studies or trying to streamline our genuine demands,” said a student, requesting anonymity.
A few students also claimed that quite a number of students are perturbed by the VC’s personal attacks and fake charges. “The protest is a unanimous initiative by all the students of the university and is not guided by a defined leadership with every student having equal voice in determining the course of the protest,” claimed another protester.
Students with placards, banners have been demanding complete administrative revamp, including the removal of the VC and Registrar from their posts, curbing mismanagement besides, admitting competent faculty members and auditing all financial records by any unbiased external authority or, if possible, by Comptroller Auditor General (CAG).
Release of funds by the State Government for the payment of dues to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and appointing a review commission by the Chancellor as per the guidelines are other major demands of the students.
Though the VC had already issued an ultimatum to withdraw the protest on April 10, failing which strict actions would be taken; none of the protesting students is ready to give up and said that they will continue the protest irrespective of everything and in any circumstance.
