NTPC gift row puts fact finding team in soup

Former MlA cum Convenor of Visthapit Sangharsh Morcha loknath Mahto alongwith MlA of Barkagaon Nirmala Devi has levelled serious allegations on the BJP fact finding team at NTPC’s Barkagaon-Keredari project for receiving gifts from NTPC officials. Mahto said that it has proved their allegation that the present NTPC administration of coal projects was betraying the displaced and is trying to suppress their voice by hook or crook.

A five-member team of local BJP leaders had visited NTPC's coal projects R&R colony site Dhenga, Barkagaon just before Dussehra as per the direction of senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and Hazaribagh MP Jayant Sinha. The team visited the site and gave its report to Yashwant Sinha.

However, it is being alleged that a member of this team handed over a packet of 'gift' to Sinha, saying that an officer of NTPC had himself handed over this gift to his nephew when he was not in his shop.

The senior leader took the issue very seriously and asked the other four members that whether they have also taken gifts but they denied.

Futher, it is being said that Sinha called up senior NTPC officials and found out that the gift issue was true. A team member of the fact finding mission told the Pioneer that his nephew was not ready to take the gift but a senior officer said that they used to gift sweets during puja to well-wishers, so he took the packet.

"When I came back he gave me the packet and said that an officer has given this packet of sweets as Dussehra gift for you. When I saw the packet, it was not looking like sweets packet, so I opened it and found a costly item inside. Then I decided to get our leader acquainted with this fact too along with factual report of R&R colony," the team member said.

Efforts to contact the NTPC officials for their comments remained futile. Meanwhile, the issue has hit social media and people are expecting action against the fact finding team members. As per sources the BJP team has also found anomalies in the ongoing construction work of R&R colony.
