Raj Bhavan’s constant prodding to get colleges both constituent and affiliated assessed and accredited by NAAC is yet to yield any result in Nilamber Pitamber University where out of 4 constituent colleges, three are still non-assessed by NAAC. Similarly two of the affiliated colleges out of more than half a dozen are still non-assessed by NAAC.
The non assessed constituent colleges are JS College, GlA College in Daltonganj and SSJS Namdhari College in Garhwa. Sources said one constituent women’s college in Daltonganj and two affiliated colleges in Garhwa are only the assessed ones by NAAC.
S N Singh vice chancellor of NPU said,“I have been asking the principal GlA college and professors in charge of JS college, Namdhri college Garhwa and other affiliated colleges spread in 3 districts latehar, Garhwa and Palamu to gear up fast for NAAC evaluation as Raj Bhavan is too serious about it and in every meeting of Raj Bhavan on university matter this issue crops up but I am to give a stereo typed answer courtesy my team of colleges which is yet to girdle its loins for this job”.
The VC conceded that it belies all logic as to how many weeks, months or years will be required for getting ready for NAAC evaluation. Sources said GlA College is doing preparation for NAAC evaluation since 2016 but it is yet to make a start in this connection.
If evaluation of colleges by NAAC team is on back seat the start of Choice Based Credit System in UG courses, too, remains a non starter in this university while the other four State universities this system is in vogue.
Commenting upon this the VC said, “On Sunday I held a meeting with the team of constituent colleges and affiliated colleges wherein I asked the colleges to be ready for starting Choice Based Credit System in UG courses to which the entire fleet of colleges has sought time till April 5 when these colleges have assured to sit again on this issue to take a final call on it.”
Grant of affiliation or extension of affiliation to colleges is getting more and more condition based and there are colleges here in this university whose chairpersons are either former MlAs or sitting MlAs and one such MlA is a minister also in this Government who use their clout in the corridor of power and get things done as they wish in respect of affiliation or extension of it.
The VC on this issue of grant of affiliation or extension of affiliation said, “The Higher, Technical Education and Skill development department has set a long list of conditions as prerequisite for grant or extension of affiliation and the university is bound to follow it wherein the colleges seeking affiliations are to co operate but there are instances where colleges are giving affidavits after affidavits over the years but every time the condition in such colleges remains as it was earlier and such colleges manage works of affiliation on their own .”
