Keeping in pace with the new age technology, the Postal Department on Friday initiated online facility of tracking the letters dropped in letter boxes in Capital City. The department has provided android operating system smart phones to all the postmen here to link them with this new digital practice. An individual can log onto https://appost.in/nanyatha to track the status of their letters dropped in letter box recently.
Through the facility available, postmasters and divisions can now monitor the clearance of letter boxes through the website. An option to check the number of letters cleared from the letter boxes is available on site. The software ‘Nanyatha’, developed by the Andhra Pradesh Postal Circle is helpful in tracking the number of letters posted.
All the postmen will update the records after scanning the bar code marked inside respective letter boxes from where they collect the letters. Previously only limited services like couriers, speed posts etc were tracked through online medium. However, now the age old concept of dropping letters in letter boxes too is being boosted up through new media platform.
“The initiative is for the convenience of both public and employees. The main reason for the declination of letters sending habit was that no such facilities were earlier available to track its record. However, with the changing time slowly the concept is being elaborated. The facility will enhance the timeliness of delivering the letters and will also curb the other loopholes,” said, Director Postal Accounts, Jharkhand Circle, Rakesh Kumar.
The service at present is only initiated in metros cities including all the State capitals across the nation. looking at the feasibility and internet connectivity, the service will be expanded in the rural pockets later. The implementation of the electronic monitoring of letter box clearance through the ‘Nanyatha’ software has made this possible.
“Each letter box is given a unique barcode consisting of a pin code followed by a two digit serial number. After capturing the location coordinates of the letter box, the postman opens it, counts the letters and scans the barcode fixed inside the letter box. Postmen then enter his name and the number of letters cleared. Through the app, the details get uploaded on the server,” said, Kumar while elaborating on the electronic monitoring concept.
After a brief training all the postmen were given smart phones to deliver the service and maintain accuracy. “After downloading the application on android phone, a small training session was conducted by the officials here. In five steps, the entire procedure is completed and it is handy, therefore, we are not finding it difficult in using it,” added, Shriram Sevak Mahato, a postman at Ranchi GPO.
