East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal has decided to install the CCTV cameras in all areas under three civic bodies —Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) and Jugsalai Municipality. Earlier CCTV cameras were installed under-Jusco-command areas only.
About 50 CCTV cameras have been installed at Bistupur, Sakchi and parts of Golmuri and Kadma by a private ad agency in collaboration with the East Singhbhum district police.
In order to ensure strict vigil in order areas the administration has decided to install surveillance cameras at places like Mango, Uliyan, Jawaharnagar, Azadnagar, Ramnagar, Sonari, Sitaramdera, Bagbera, Jugsalai, Govindpur, Birsanagar and Telco.
Significantly, this time to spread the network of CCTV cameras, the district administration will not utilise the money of any private agency and will rather use the fund received on the head of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
DC, Amitabh Kaushal stated that the special officers of JNAC, MNAC and Jugsalai Municipality have been directed to conduct survey for installing the CCTV cameras in their respective civic bodies areas. “We have asked special officers of the three civic bodies to conduct the survey in co-operation with the district police so that they may select the strategic locations where the surveillance cameras should be installed,” said Kaushal.
Kaushal, when asked, said the main purpose behind tightening the network of CCTV cameras beyond the prime location is to enhance security across the city.
A police official said that it is a testing time for the city police in the wake of a spurt in crimes like snatching, burglary and group clashes in the city. Taking lesson from the past incidents the district administration is not ready to take any chance on the security front.
Senior Superintendent of Police Anoop T Mathew said that the decision will definitely help curb in the crimes considerably.
The roads in important localities like Mango being given priority of the CCTV camera installation and in the later stage the localities with lesser civic importance will be selected for the same. The camera will help in easily identifying the people involved in anti-social activities in the area. The police department will ensure that the large number of CCTV cameras installed to monitor traffic offences are incorporated into the new system.
