People of Jharkhand can now file complaints from home without doing rounds of police station and without facing non-cooperating police officials as online system of registration of first-information-report (FIR) started on Wednesday allowing people the flexibility of using information technology to apprise police about their grievances.
The online FIR system was inaugurated by Chief Minister Raghubar Das. The CM also launched highway patrolling and Accident Relief and Medical Assistance for Ranchi (ARMAR).
“Police must act timely on people’s complaints and they should reach at the accident site within five minutes of getting information. Earlier, they could not arrive at accident spot even after hours,” said Das.
The system of online FIR would be implemented on pilot basis in four districts and 10 police stations across Jharkhand. A dedicated website (jofs.jhpolice.gov.in) has been floated to facilitate registration of complaints from a community service centres like Pragya Kendra and from home.
A complainant needs to furnish identity proof such as Aadhar Number at the time of filing online complain and in the absence of Aadhar a person needs to register with the portal and upload identification proof for pushing the message across to a police station. A handwritten and self attested complaint note also needs to be uploaded besides, mentioning everything in digital format on the dedicated portal. While timely action forms the crucial part of the online system its use comes with a caveat against misuse or filing wrong complaints.
Das went one-step further to infuse confidence among and requested people to approach him and Director General of Police directly. He also appealed policemen to work as a team.
The online system will be available for three police stations in Ranchi (Kotwali, Jagannathpur and Ormanjhi), three police stations in Jamshedpur (Sonari, Kadma and Potka), two police stations in Bokaro (Bokaro Steel City and Gomia) and two police stations in Dhanbad (Dhanbad and Katras). The top-cop of Jharkhand assured that police will be at the doorstep within minutes of filing a complaint.
“Police stations of Jharkhand are being strengthened and all police stations are being made technically capable. Police will reach to the aggrieved person within five minutes of filing online FIR,” maintained DGP DK Pandey.
Meanwhile, patrolling along the accident prone stretch of National Highway between Ranchi and Jamshedpur has also started simultaneously with city patrolling services in Ranchi, Bokaro and Jamshedpur. Even as three vehicles have been provided by Tata for highway patrolling, 11 vehicles in Ranchi, two vehicles in Bokaro and four in Jamshedpur will be pressed for patrolling city’s streets.
Significantly, ARMAR will focus on providing medical relief to accident victims and aims at preventing death due to road accidents. The benign concept envisages public-private-partnership in which stakeholders like Tata, Medica and Jharkhand Police will collaborate with each other to save lives of accident victims.
