Officiating Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraverty today initiated steps towards reining -in corruption in the State. Chakraverty underscoring the need to control the malpractice has created email to encourage reporting of cases directly to him through the email.

The email — sajalagainstcorruption@gmail.com — will be accessed by the Additional Director General of Vigilance Neeraj Sinha also and it will be advertised through mass media. However, the CS issued a caveat for misusing the system of reporting for setting personal scores. “This should not become a means to harass someone. So, in the case of false reporting we will take strict action against that person,” pointed out Chakraverty.

The State government is likely to set up one DC (Deputy Commissioner) Control Room in addition to an SDO (Sub-divisional Officer) Control Room in every district for emergency requirements of the citizens. Notably, a CS (Chief Secretary) Control Room will also be setup. The facility will be formally inaugurated on Monday. The control rooms will work 24X7 to address emergency calls.

“The facility will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister and we will advertise the numbers from Friday,” added the CS. The CS also dispelled any fear of additional burden on the exchequer for staffs that will be used to respond to calls made on the numbers. One magistrate will be deputed round the clock in the control room and other staffs.

“There is no need to make fresh recruitments for CS control room as existing secretariat staffs will be deputed at the control room,” continued Chakraverty. The benevolent step is mooted to infuse confidence among citizens about the promptness of district administrations in responding to their emergency needs. “At any cost there should be a number where people can blindly call for any problem,” concluded the CS.

Meanwhile, the committee setup for working out a formula for converting affiliated colleges into constituents will get just 10 days to submit its recommendations to the State government. The CS in-charge had announced the five-member committee — Pandey Committee — on Tuesday that will prepare a proposal for conversion of affiliated colleges into constituent colleges. The five-member committee will be headed by Director of Sri Krishna Institute of Public Administration (SKIPA) Dr AK Pandey with members including Director Higher Education and three academicians, who would be retired Vice Chancellors. Director Higher Education DN Ojha will be Member Secretary of the committee.
