Now, KYC to help students in choosing colleges

Published on:

To avoid students’ confusion and make things easier for the candidates now every college has to maintain its web portal. The portal will consists of all details about the college facilities, programmes, various courses and fee information. The UGC has instructed all the colleges to upload information in ‘Know Your College’ (KYC)  portal.

The ‘Know Your College’ portal was launched by the President of India on November, 2014 to help new students to make correct choices about the colleges. The portal covers almost 10,500 colleges which conduct about 14,000 programmes in Technical Education and 35000 colleges conducting at least 20,000 programmes in Non-Technical education. Detailed information related to its faculty, labs, library, infrastructure, and availability of hostel facilities etc will be available on the web portal for the student convenience. Students can even register their complaints on discrepancies of information provided by colleges through this portal.

“We have already conducted a meeting with the colleges’ administrative body and have given the instruction to upload all the information about the colleges online by September 15 as per the guideline issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Department. Few colleges have already completed the procedure,” said Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University, Ramesh Kumar Pandey.

“During the time of admission, students often get confused about the courses and colleges to help the students make an informed decision on the choice of college and the courses, the Ministry of Human Resource Development have developed a ‘Know Your College’ portal which will help the candidates to take correct decision,” Pandey further added.

The KYC portal is being maintained by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).  For many students in the state capital this is a positive approach from both the government as well as from the University side.

“This is a very positive step taken by the government as now each and every detail of various colleges will be made available on web portal. This procedure will definitely be very helpful for every candidate who often gets confused due to the lack of information about certain colleges,” said Nupur Dubey, a student of St. Xavier’s college. However, providing details online is not easy for certain colleges in other districts of the state.

“Our university and colleges are located in the interior. We do not have ample manpower to make these technical provisions and moreover proper internet connectivity is also not available. But certain colleges in our districts have already upgraded the details online and others have been instructed to do so within the timeframe,” said Vice Chancellor of Sidhu Kanhu University, Dr. Kamar Ahshan.
