Keeping the current theme, vaccine rakhis are trending and are much in demand this season. With less than a fortnight to go for Rakha Bandhan (August 22),  the festival that celebrates the love of a brother for his sister, rakhis makers in the State Capital are working hard making new designer rakhis.

Among different rakhis, the most trending rakhis is vaccine rakhis. Vishnu, a rakhi seller at Upper Bazar area said, this year there is a totally new design for rakhis—those themed on the Covid vaccine. He said, “These rakhis look cute and attractive. We have brought limited rakhis and now it is running out of stock. We have ordered for vaccine rakhis and it will be available in the market by Monday.”

The designer of this vaccine rakhis has designed the rakhis with an aim to create awareness about vaccination. As a large chunk of the population have not been vaccinated the vaccine is seen as an attempt to fight pandemic.

The rakhis has two small size bottles stressing the importance of double doses of vaccines. The two bottles are not made up of glass, but plastic so they look good but won’t hurt like glass.

Priced at Rs 110 per rakhis, there is much demand. Vandana Krit, a woman spotted at one of the shops said, “I came to know from my friend that vaccine rakhis are available in the market. But now it is running out of stock. The shopkeeper has assured me that he will provide vaccine rakhis on Monday, when the new stock arrives.”

The woman lady said that in this pandemic time, the best defense against coronavirus is vaccines and creating awareness about vaccination though vaccine rakhis is the best way.

Kids and seniors are the most curious about the new rakhi design, say sellers. Personalized options are also selling well. “We have some designs with pictures of political leaders. This has a special segment of buyers,” said that shopkeeper.

Apart from these the Rudraksh rakhi is also much in demand for this Raksha bandhan. The Rudraksh rakhi has rudraksha seeds as design.

The Jharkhand Rajya Khadi Evam Gramodyog Board has also introduced silk rakhis in the market.

Rakhis ranging from as low as Rs 2 to Rs 2,000 were available in the market, whereas special rakhi shops were also set-up in various markets. With most girls opting for small and decent rakhis, the trend of silver and gold rakhis has also picked up. Several jewellery shops are even making gold rakhis worth thousands of rupees.
