Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate for Ranchi Mahua Maji interacted with the residents of Garikhana and visited areas in the vicinity of Pahari Mandir to convince voters about her abilities to fulfil aspirations of people and address basic issues affecting lives of common man.
The chairperson of Jharkhand State Commission for Women (JSCW) urged people to bring a change to see what difference she can make in the lives of people.
Writer of celebrated novel “Me Borishailla”, Maji is contesting against four-time legislator from Ranchi, CP Singh. The chairperson of women commission is confident that her stint with the apex body for women’s right would bring enough people on her side to ensure victory from the constituency.
“I have been working with the women’s commission. Please support me and bless me,” said the JMM candidate to a woman voter living in narrow lane of Bano Manjil Road. “I seek your blessings, support”- echoed Maji while she knocked at the doors of voters and wherever she made a brief halt during the campaign. The JMM candidate was joined by ardent supporters of the party who during the two-hour campaign were more vocal about the candidate.
“We are in direct contest with the BJP. Bring a change for once and see what she can do. Please vote and make your entire family voter for us in this election,” said the leader among the supporters.
Maji who earned fame as a writer needs to put in more efforts as she is known first as a candidate from the party of Shibu Soren and then as someone who has been made candidate for Ranchi. Voters nodded in response to her smiling face but seem puzzled the moment they dig up their memory to recollect works done by her for the society.
“I don’t know what she has done for the society. Nonetheless, candidates come and go whereas problems remain as they were,” maintained Sunil Kumar Verma, a resident of Qurban Ali Road.
Maji may be new to politics but she exhibited interest in whatever people shared with her. From chaiwalas, to barber shop to each and every shop – she made a brief halt at everywhere and enquired people about their wellbeing.
“(Kaise hainIJ theek hainIJ) How are youIJ Are you fineIJ This time I am contesting from Ranchi,” said Maji to voters of Irgu Road.
Even as the JMM candidate was urging for a change voters had a word or two about securing fortress elsewhere. “(Yehan to sab theek hai madam, lekin bajra pe dhayan dijiye) Everything is ok for you (in Garikhana) but you should pay attention to Bajra,” said a voter until informed by a supporter that the area comes under Hatia Assembly constituency.
Before leaving, Maji had a word with party supporters who devoted their time to introduce their candidate to the voters.
