The Jharkhand State livelihood Promotion Society (JSlPS) is likely to shelve contracts of skill development programmes that are yet to start and divert cash earmarked to be spent on the non-starter schemes on the continuing schemes to promote livelihood programmes in the State.
As many as 64,000 youngsters are scheduled to be trained under the livelihood mission programme for providing them avenues of employment and end their economic apartheid in a phased manner. However, as the progress in 2-3 years is somewhat satisfactory, the society has decided to overhaul the strategy and increase the scope of the schemes currently under operation.
“We have decided to do away with those projects where training programme has not been started. Instead, that money will be distributed to running projects. This has to be done but we need the Centre’s approval prior to that. The distribution at district level and we will provide guidelines,” said Chief Executive Officer, JSPlS, Paritosh Upadhyay.
Of the target of training 64,000 youngsters of socially and economically marginalized section of the society, training programme for 10,000 students is yet to start and the total fund that was sanctioned is around Rs0-crore. Progress of the training programme for the rest 54,000 is gaining momentum as the department is concentrating to give flip to those training programme with the change of strategy.
“The Rs30-crore that will be distributed is that amount which has not been claimed by any agency. This is unutilised so we are pouring them into other training programmes. In 2-3 years we have trained many students. It is going on and it will gain pace,” added Upadhyay.
