No water rationing this summer: Minister

Much to the relief to the people of Ranchi, Officials of Drinking and Sanitation Department have ensured that there will be no rationing of water this summer as there is sufficient water in the two major water reservoirs as the State witnessed heavy rainfall during the last rainy season. Rationing of water from Hatia Dam was started in 2015 as the water level depleted to several feet due less rainfall.

“Situation is under control this year and I can assure people that they will be provided uninterrupted water supply this year as the State witnessed heavy rainfall last year making sufficient water available to Hatia and Rukka Dam, the two major water reservoirs in Ranchi,” said Superintending Engineer S Kumar. Rationing of water was being done last year due to shortage of water in Hatia Dam due to less rainfall, he added.

In addition to that PHED officials and staffs have also been asked to take precautionary measures to prevent wastage of water so that it could be conserved for the next year.

“Though regular supply of water will be ensured this summer, the officials have also been asked to be vigilant that water does not get wasted,” Kumar said. Directions have been passed for making the system update to protect loss of water this summer, he added.

Kumar said that an advisory will also be passed among the people to conserve water for future and prevent any loss of water at their level.

Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Minister Chandra Prakash Chaudhary also asserted that there was sufficient stock and there will be no problem of water this year. Meanwhile, to deal with the crisis of water in parts of the State, all the dead tube wells will be replaced with new ones.

“Survey report, sought in this regard, has been submitted and as many as 15,000 dead tube-wells will be replaced with new ones before this summer,” said the minister. All the preparations have been done to beat the heat this summer, he added.
