State Director General of Police (DGP) M V Rao did not see Maoists’ ‘upper hand’ in the Chaibasa episode where Maoists deceptive assault took a toll of two lives there. Speaking to this correspondent today Rao said, “To describe this single incident as one of any resurgence or upper hand of the Maoists is not fair and proper at all.”
“To me there is no resurgence of them (read Maoists). There is nothing like this. Our forces are carrying anti naxals operations and they (extremists) must be feeling the heat of it,” reiterated Rao. “Our security forces have given them infinite losses and apart from this I strongly believe that we do not need to go into any polemics of this rather we are more determinedly and concertedly after them” said he.
“We are very firmly on our job to curb and contain them,” Rao said. Reminded that Maoists have this capability to strike at security forces as per their ‘sweet will’ to which DGP Rao in a voice more louder on this query said, “I cannot say what the sweet will is of the extremists but we know our drive against them is intense and acute”.
Rao had had his stint here as DIG Palamu too when extremism was at its notoriously high pitch in this range of 3 districts Garhwa, Latehar and Palamu.
IG of police operations Saket Kumar Singh said security forces have taken the loss of two lives including one jawan of us very seriously and Maoists would be made to pay for it.
A source close to the extremists outfits namely CPI Maoists and the JJMP (Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad) said, “The kendu leaf trade which used to give us lots of money by way of levy in happier times got devastated due to this pandemic Coronavirus and right from Maoists to extremists of the splinter groups of naxals all are now too cash scarce.”
