The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is yet to chalk out a concrete plan of action to ensure cleanliness of Chhath ghats even after the recent orders of the Jharkhand High Court (HC). The concern increases due to the ongoing construction work at the major water bodies. As many as 10 water bodies in the State Capital are undergoing thorough restoration procedure now.
After failing miserably in cracking the whip on the defaulters who despite getting notice to ensure cleanliness of water reservoirs during immersion procedure does not adhere to the norms, even then the Municipal Corporation officials have failed to justify their stands on cleaning status of the water bodies.
The officials were unable to quote the exact number of labourers that will be deployed for cleaning purpose including the number of machines available with the civic body. Even the list of water bodies that will be cleaned for the auspicious occasion is yet to be revised.
The Capital City has 41 big and small water bodies under the municipal area. However, Mayor Asha lakra assured that soon a meeting will be conducted to draft out the cleanliness plan in more formal way.
“like every year, this year as well, we will engage quite a number of labourers in the cleanliness work. According to the requirement, the labourers will be deployed for cleanliness purpose. More than 200 workers will be roped in for this on daily basis, if possible. After ‘Diwali’ and ‘Kali Puja’ a special drive will be carried out. A few major rivers like Jumaar, Subarnarekha will be also covered under this drive,” said, the Mayor.
The Mayor further added that the list of the ponds will be prepared at the earliest. The sluggish status of beautification work of the water bodies may also cause hindrance in carrying out the rituals of ‘Chhath Puja’ at few ponds. “leaving out Joda Talab, rituals can be performed easily at the other nine ponds. The RMC will ensure all arrangements at these spots. Due to heaps of sludge, here at Joda Talab ‘Chhath puja’ activities have been restricted for this year. Also, only 10 percent construction work has been carried out here,” she said.
