No money for classroom, VBU buying furniture worth Rs1 crore

The head of a post-graduate department of Vinoba Bhave University is demanding a partition wall in the classroom, which will hardly cost Rs10,000, since last about one year but his demand has yet not been fulfilled by the Vinoba Bhave University administration so far. His proposal is refused everytime with an excuse that there is no money in this head.

In several meetings with the VC, PVC and other officials of the university he had raised the matter that due to absence of partition wall both teachers and students are facing problem because due to shortage of rooms classes of two semesters goes on at a time in a single room but no one has yet took it seriously.

One must have seen in the Government primary and middle schools students of more than one class learning in a single room but one haven’t ever imagined that the situation is same in a post graduate department of a university run by the State Government. But it is a fact in Vinoba Bhave University.

On one side university has no money to construct a partition wall and on the other hand it is going to spend about Rs1 crore in purchasing chairs and air conditioners.

About a fortnight ago the VBU accepted to host East Zone VCs’ Meet organised by Association of Indian Universities and with it the treasury was opened.

Meetings of different statutory committees were called in short notices and sanction was taken for furnishing the newly built conference hall and making it centrally air conditioned. On these heads the committees have sanctioned an amount of more than Rs97 lakhs. The conference hall has been built by the fund of UGC but yet not inaugurated. It is said that on 4th or 5th December it will be inaugurated.

Due to the recent decisions including this one anger among the teachers and students is on rising.

They are raising question that what is the necessity of spending such a huge amount from internal fund because UGC has not disapproved the proposal of furnishing it. Students are asking what they or university will gain from VCs’ meet. All are looking towards the Chancellor now.
