Ranchi police’s march towards solving mystery of few cases appears to reach dead end owing to complexities of such cases. While the men in khakhi have been successful in putting real culprits behind the bars in few cases there are few unsolved cases that are embarrassing enough for them.

Despite all the efforts there has been no breakthrough in the supposed case of ‘human sacrifice’ near Subarnrekha River under Jagannathpur police station. The case dates back to May 8 when a beheaded dead body of a woman in her twenties was spotted at Hetu Village on the outskirts of the state capital. Suspected case of human sacrifice has been the police’s line of investigation since the day the body was recovered.

“No breakthrough is possible unless the body is identified,” said Jagannathpur PS in-charge. The police had even sounded alert to all police stations to find out reports of a missing woman in age band of 18 to 25 years but so far no headway has been made in the case. The girl’s bones have been preserved to help it in identification if any one comes forward to claim the body.

Interestingly, whereabouts of an unidentified body recovered some 40 km away from Ranchi is still not known. The body was recovered between Gosaidih and Majhi tola in Bundu had sparked a series of controversy about purported miscarriage of justice after three accused were sent to jail in connection with the case. The fact that the body holds clue to the case seems to have not come across the conscience of police especially after it was proved that the case has been so far of a mistaken identity.

“We cannot comment on that as the case is now in the hands of CID,” said Rural SP SK Jha. No significant arrest has been in the murder case of Ratan Gope. A resident of Namkum, Gope was killed by unidentified gunmen on July 8 while he had made a brief halt at a tea stall while return to home after dropping his child to a school. The incident had sparked severe protest in the area.

In another case, real accused behind the killing of Ashok Nath Sahdeo are still at large. The 40-year-old land broker was shot dead by motorcycle borne unidentified gunmen while he was sitting in his vehicle. The incident took place in Tuppudana PS area.
