Palamau police are keeping fingers crossed since two major events Chhath and Muharram fall within a short gap of time. A peace committee meeting was convened on Tuesday afternoon in the premise of the Daltonganj police station under the chairmanship of the SP Narendra K Singh.
With the days to go for Chhath, the police in Palamau are taking all the safety measures. First is the safety and purity of the Chhath ghats. The ghats are vulnerable to mischief, as any dirt can be thrown or kept there. Second is the prevention of any untoward incident. As the Muharram is also around the same time, the police want to leave no stone unturned for maintaining the communal harmony. The Palamau Police had a taste of it when this Muslim festival Bakrid some items most objectionable were found on a ghat in Neora pond under CHainpur police station. The discovery of the items led to a communal ferment then. However saner elements helped brought peace.
The Neora ghat was cleansed. The pond water was taken out with the help of fire tenders. The Hindus there then carried Jal Pawatram Puja in the pond.
The Chhath is all about ghat, the Sun and purity of body and mind. A ghat poojan is done but with this dirt all around things are difficult said S K Singh a resident of Daltonganj.
However ghats here are dirty even today. There is everything that one can find there broken glass, dirty clothes, human faeces, pigs left over, garbage. The scene at the ghats today are pathetic. DC Palamu Manoj Kumar said the ghats would be cleaned on a war footing from Wednesday. On Wednesday starts Nahaye Khaye rite.
It is not understood as to how this ghat will be cleaned when devotees will be taking dip in the river Koyal here.
