Nirbhaya's father meets CM, demands CBI probe

After a long wait of 13 days to get justice, Ranchi’s Nirbhaya’s father Nageshwar Mahto met Chief Minister Raghubar Das at his officer on Thursday and demanded CBI inquiry in the case. The Chief Minister after hearing him patiently assured him that he will recommend CBI inquiry into the case if police fails to come to any conclusion in next 2-3 days.

“Despite several efforts made by Special Investigation Team (SIT) and other agencies to nab the criminals involved in the case, no breakthrough has been achieved even after 13 days of the incident so I had gone to request CM to hand over the case to the CBI,” said Nirbhaya’s father Nageshwar Mahto.

Mahto also handed over a petition to the CM stating that since police so far has failed to nab criminals, he has lost hope in the police and hence wanted CBI inquiry into the case.

“Despite assurances given by SSP Ranchi on the next day of incident that they would arrest the criminals within 24 hours, they have not been able to achieve anything in this regard. As the time is passing by, we have started losing hope in the State Police. Therefore, I request you to please recommend this case to the CBI,” stated the letter.

The CM, however, assured Mahto that the investigation was in its final stages and the case was likely to be solved within 2-3 days.

“The CM said if the police fail to crack the case within 2-3 days, he will recommend the case to the CBI,” Mahto said. Meanwhile, the CM also talked to the DGP and took stock of the status of the case, he added.

Remarkably, Mahto had to wait for three ling hours outside CM’s office to meet him as officials kept him waiting.

“Insensitivity of this government could be gauged by the fact that despite having MPs letter in my hand, I was made to stand for over three hours before the office the Chief Minister as the guards did not allow us to enter due to unknown reasons. We were only allowed to enter after media came in and created ruckus over there,” said Mahto.

A semi-naked charred body of the 19 year old victim of a third semester student of Ram Tahal Chaudhary Institute of Technology was found while she was alone at home when the incident took place. Originally from Barkakana, the girl was living with her elder sister on a rented accommodation in Booti Basti on the outskirts of Ranchi.
