Chairman of NIMS University in Jaipur Balvir S Tomar, facing a case of alleged molestation in Ranchi, has been arrested in Jaipur on Tuesday by a team of Ranchi Police led by senior police officer BK Bharti. A case against Tomar was lodged at Mahila Thana in Ranchi under Section 376/511 of the IPC in 2015.
Tomar was taken to a local court in Jaipur for a transit remand. “As a petition seeking transit remand has already been filed at a local court in Jaipur, the accused may be brought here very soon as per the availability of tickets to Ranchi,” said Sadar DSP and Ranchi Police Spokesperson Vikas Chardra Srivastava.
According to police, a case was registered against Tomar at Chutia police station in Ranchi in the month of January 2015 where a second-year girl student of Bachelor of Radiology and Imaging Technology accused Tomar of trying to rape her at a hotel room in Ranchi in November 2015. The 20 year old girl, who was a student of the same University, accused Tomar of calling her to his room on some pretext and then making inappropriate advances.
The girl after resisting his advances, rushed out of his room, subsequently lodging the complaint against him. Tomar at that time was in Ranchi to attend a conference along with some student from his University.
“Several attempts were made by Tomar, but when it became unbearable for the girl she decided to lodge a complaint against him,” said the DSP.
