NIA Court seeks Patar's medical report from Jail

The Special NIA Court of Navneet Kumar today sought medical report of former Tamar MlA Gopal Krishna Patar from the Jail Superintendent of Birsa Munda Central Jail, where he is currently lodged in connection with the assassination of former minister Ramesh Singh Munda.

Patar’s advocate through a petition filed in the Court on Friday demanded proper medical checkup of his client by an independent agency after complaints were made by him that he was being given nine tablets per day by the jail authorities without giving proper reasons for the same.

“The petition has been allowed and the Court has asked the Jail Superintendent to submit a report after conducting proper medical examination of my client, following which action may be taken by it,” said Patar’s Advocate Rohit Sinha.

During the jail visit on December 5, Patar had complained that he was given nine different tablets on daily basis but was not being told the ailment by the jail authorities, he added.

“We simply demanded proper medical checkup by any independent authority or he may be examined by a team of doctors in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences or admitted there if required,” the Advocate said. Everybody knows what medical facilities are provided in the Jail, he added.

Patar alias Raja Peter was arrested by the NIA on October 9 in connection with the July 2008 murder of Ramesh Singh Munda, the then Janata Dal (United) MlA from Tamar assembly constituency and a former minister.

NIA charged Patar for conniving with the Maoists and paying them to get his closest political rival and sitting Tamar MlA Ramesh Singh Munda killed.

Munda alongwith his two bodyguards, one party colleague and a student was shot dead allegedly by the group of dreaded Maoist Kundan Pahan on July 9, 2008 while delivering his speech at a school function at SS High School at Bundu located in his assembly constituency Tamar, hardly 50 km from the State Capital Ranchi.

The NIA began investigating the murder case following an application written by Munda’s son Vikas Singh Munda to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to get the matter properly investigated as he smells something fishy in it.
