Newborn stolen from RIMS, again

Before one could forget the shocking incident of a newborn theft in first week of last month from RIMS premises, another newborn baby boy has been stolen from the premise of largest Government hospital in the State.

“We have received complaints from one Salamat Ansari from Muri, whose wife Arjan Bibi is said to have given birth to a baby boy on Thursday evening around 7 O’clock. He said in the complaint that Arjan Bibi was carrying her infant outside Gynecology ward of hospital around 8 AM on Friday. One another lady was also there, playing with a kid. As Arjan Bibi went for nature’s call, she handed her kid over to that lady and after she returned in around 10 minutes, she found both missing from there. She enquired around only to know that the lady she had handed over the baby, went away,” said Bariatu police station Incharge Dhananjay Kumar Srivastava.

He, however, said that no formal complaint had been registered by RIMS in this regard till Friday evening, but the police had started a search operation for unidentified lady and the newborn.

He said that the CCTV footage of the hospital has captured the thief taking newborn with her, whose search has been started.

While search of the baby and its takers are on, the incident has posed serious threat to safety and security of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital which remains the only hope for millions of under-privileged in the State.

Senior officials of the hospital, including Director Bl Sherwal couldn’t be reached for comments despite repeated calls on Friday.

Notably, a one-day old baby girl was reported missing last month from RIMS premises. Even in that case, the RIMS administration kept pushing idea of family matters of the mother being responsible for disappearance of the kid. Sherwal, in that case even went ahead claiming that the family itself would have orchestrated the drama of theft as the newborn was fourth girl child and the family might not have been ready for her welcome. However, it all proved wrong after the kid was found and handed over to the family.

The largest Government hospital of the State has remained under question with such shady activities previously also. The hospital has faced charges of changing children by none other than hospital administration staffs themselves. A woman had gone ahead accusing the hospital administration of changing her newborn baby with another child around two years ago.
