New rules for safety of girls in city hostels

The recent sexual assault and rape of four minor pahariya girls has raised concerns about safety of girl students in the city. As a result, the hostel authorities have now tightened their belt and are taking some strong measures to ensure the safety of the girls staying in their hostels.

K Mathew, warden of Keshav Kunj girls’ hostel said, “After hearing the news of minor girls I have imposed restriction on male visitors within the hostel premises. No male visitor will be allowed to meet the girls within the hostel boundary. They can meet them outside the hostel gate and that also only up to 6:00 pm. We are also planning to install CCTVs near the main entrance to keep an eye on the visitors.” “I have appointed a guard now to keep an eye on the visitors and also to check the time of entry and exit of girls from the hostel, Moreover hostel entry time is also revised now earlier the last entry time within the hostel was till 7 pm now it is 6 pm. Moreover only female local guardian will be allowed to met the girls once a week,” said Saraswati Devi warden of ‘Tript home’ girls’ hostel. Mixed response was seen among the girls with the announcement of new rules levied for them by their hostel warden. Some girls welcomed this new rule while some found it as restriction on their freedom.

Neha Shah who stays in Shruti girls’ hostel said, “I am working in ICICI bank and my office hours are from 10am to 7pm, if 6 pm will be the last entry time in the hostel boundary then how I will be able to manage it. So I plead my warden to consider my problem and extend my entry time.” “I completely agree with the rules made by our hostel warden, by looking at the alarming crime within the city I feel these measures will provide security to a great extent,” said Anjali Sinha who stays in Shyamlila Kunj Girls hostel.
