Differently-abled people (Divyangs) will have no difficulties in commuting in any of the newly constructed or under construction multi-storey government buildings, as the Building Constructions Department has taken measures for the same in projects under its supervision.

Building Construction Secretary K K Soan said that the department was serious on two key issues: installation of rainwater harvesting system, and providing alternative pathways to Divyangs.

He said that all the new buildings which had either been constructed or under construction by the Department and Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation limited (JSBCCl) were equipped with both the facilities, whereas efforts were being made to have these two facilities installed in all government owned multi-storey buildings in a phased manner.

Soan said that the department was working aggressively to get new Jharkhand High Court building constructed by end of this year, and Assembly building by end of February 2019, both within the mandated time. Sharing progress report of works the department had undertaken, Soan said that most of the works were in progress in due speed and were expected to be completed on time.

“We have as many as 432 plans of worth Rs 2,000 crores under construction under JSBCCl which was formed in April last after dissolving some eight such departments and combining them into one. It has completed 189 plans in the State so far, many of which were lagging years behind their time under different departments,” said Soan. He was presenting the department’s achievements and targets under the government’s aggressive plan to take its yearly achievements to the people and tell them about what it was doing for the next year.

He said that the Corporation had undertaken plans like construction of new campus of Ranchi University (RU) in Cheri and Raksha Shakti University building in Khunti. Construction works of RU campus in Cheri is expected to be started within another two months. “I must say that this is going to be one of the finest university campuses in the country in terms of facilities to be provided there at a cost of around Rs 250 crores. The same is true for Raksha Shakti University too, which will be developed at a cost of Rs 200 crores,” added Soan.

“We have undertaken numerous tasks of constructing administrative buildings, court buildings, officers’ and employees’ residence. We have also undertaken renovation works of district health centres under Kaya-Kalp plan, in which 21 district health centres have been renovated at total cost of Rs 37,36,81,295 so far. The department has also renovated 18 Zila Schools and Rajkiya Balika Vidyalaya at district headquarters under Kaya-Kalp till now,” added Soan where other officials of the Department were also present.

As of now, the department is in process of getting some key projects completed, including new secretariat and Nirman Bhawan buildings in Ranchi, second Jharkhand Bhawan in New Delhi, State guest house in Mumbai and Puri, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) warehouse in all the districts among others.
