Ahead of Diwali, the Fire Department has decided against granting permission forsetting up cracker shops at commercial complexes, malls and big halls. Fire department issued special guidelines to all officials dealing with the issuance of noobjection certificates (NOCs) for temporary firecracker shops, said Suresh Paswan anofficial.

Along with applications (in proper format) for setting up temporary shops a rough sketch of the place where the shop is going to be set up is essential. Before issuing a NOC, the Fire Officers must ensure receipt of the spot-visit report from the inspectionofficer, he said. They have been asked not to issue any no-objection certificate for setting upfirecracker shops in shopping or any commercial complexes, malls or in the basement area of a complex, he said.

Meanwhile, SDO Chas Satish Chandra clamped restrictions on the setting up of firecracker shops near residential areas and along main roads in the twin cities to ensure safety and prevent accidents.

Several police stations have been asked to list free space under their jurisdiction to setup these shops. Police have put in place some guidelines for cracker shops.

The cops will ensure that temporary cracker shops are at least three meters away from

other structures and have at least 50 meters of free space in front of them, said theofficial.

According to the restriction issued by SDO, no one can set up a cracker shop without getting a valid license. Crackers shop owners should obtain a legal license and NOC from Fire Service, Health and Police Departments and municipal authoritiesconcerned before applying for a license.

The safety guideline reveals that there should be a minimum distance of at least threemeters between two shops selling firecrackers and the sellers must have to keep a fireextinguisher, sandbags along with enough water storage but none of the vendorsfound following the guidelines, said a fire official.

Notably, only three vendors are having permanent license to sell crackers in Chas bokaro area.
