Sensing the need to portray a people friendly image, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar reached out to the police officials assembled on the occasion of a book launch on Sunday and made an appeal to improve image by performing duty with compassion.
The DGP emphasised on people-police discourse and said, “We need to win the heart of people to get their wholehearted support,” adding “it is necessary as we cannot work without people’s support.”
Kumar used the occasion to laud the efforts made by Jharkhand Police Association to communicate with people and officials of the department through the magazine —Spandan — which will be published once in three months. The DGP also laid emphasis on communicating with media and use it as a medium to counter false accusations often leveled on police.
“It is indeed a commendable step to reach out to the people through the magazine however communicating with media is equally important. People should know truth and for that we need to talk to the press” said Kumar. The book was launched with the specific objective of providing a platform to police officials to enable their voice to reach up the hierarchy. “We have been trying to launch the magazine to provide to an effective medium to Police officials where they can express their feelings and grievances,” said president of the association Sunil Kumar.
The DGP touched on issues concerning policemen assuring that all issues will be taken up with government and will be addressed in a justified manner. The issues that were put before the DGP included — transfer and posting of officials languishing in an area especially a Naxal hit area for over three years, elongated departmental inquiry, non-payment of allowances, upgrading police stations, filling up notified vacant posts and creating additional posts.
