Poonam Kaitha and Roshini Kumari after struggling hard and leading a miserable life as domestic helps, at present with the aid and assistance of leading NGOs and through various State Government social welfare schemes are not just continuing their studies but are leading a dignified life guiding other children through child committees at their respective villages and setting example for other kids. Their vision is to develop Jharkhand as ‘Child Friendly’ State where kids will be provided equal opportunity and liberty.

Narrating similar such success stories, children from backward districts of the State, who have been rescued from the vicious cycle of child labour gathered at Sri Krishna Institute of Public Administrative (SKIPA) on Friday in a programme organised by Child labour Commission and Department of labour in association with Plan India and Save the Children organisations in the ongoing week of World Day Against Child labour.

With several initiatives and awareness campaign, though to an extent, the menace of trafficking, child labour and migration is restrained but in the rural pockets of the State such fierce condition still prevails. “Approximately, 10,000 girls are trafficked from interior areas of state every year. However, after several awareness campaigns, we have successfully rescued several girls and have linked them to the mainstream too but to completely eradicate the curse of child labour, we need support and massive awareness drive. In this similar context, from June 21, operation Bal Shram (Child labour) will be initiated in Ranchi with the aim to free all the domestic workers below 14 years employed in various households,” said, Member of Child labour Commission, Sanjay Kumar Mishra.
