Experts from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) feel there is a strong need of promoting the participation of matriculation aspirants in classroom learning. The importance of the issue was discussed in a first of its kind workshop for matriculation teachers of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) at Namkom on Monday.

“The main purpose of our interaction is to explain the techniques through which the syllabus and classroom study become beneficial for the students. Teachers are showing interest in gaining the methods. We are sharing the guidelines on how to build the confidence of students and helping them to respond on a topic,” said professor AK Wazalwar from education in science and mathematics department, NCERT, New Delhi after the inaugural ceremony of the three day workshop.

Notably, the purpose behind inviting NCERT specialists is to give the local teachers an exposure of education system prevailing at the national level. Chief Guest of the occasion Human Resources Development Secretary Aradhana Patnaik also felt the need of strengthening quality education in all the government schools. She said it is important to encourage the weak students and bringing them in the frontline.

As many as 48 teachers from physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology subjects from all the districts are participating in the programme. The process of question paper format in cognitive as well as summative ways and then evaluation is being taught to these teachers by NCERT experts accompanied by local resource persons.

Besides, Wazalwar, his colleague Shashi Prabha and former professor RS Sindhu are taking part in the workshop.

“Providing quality education to our students is a challenge. We aim to solve it by preparing student-oriented question paper. The participants will have to submit their learning feedback at the end of workshop on Wednesday. Thereafter, they will train concerned subject teachers in their districts as master trainers,” JAC joint secretary Arvind Kumar Jha said.

Interestingly, prior to the beginning of the workshop teachers pledged to create an ambience for every student’s participation during the classroom hours. “It is time when we should work jointly on making a subject interesting for the students. This will surely benefit in improving the results at matriculation level from 2015 onwards,” JAC chairman Anand Bhushan said.

The Pioneer in a report published on September 10 had mentioned the council’s plan to rope in NCERT experts for training its matric teachers. JAC chairman Bhushan had then told that dates for the workshop are not fixed as the reply from NCERT is awaited.
