After getting hold over some of the small pockets in the remote areas of the state, splinter groups of CPI (Maoists) like Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) and People’s liberation Front of India (PlFI) are now trying to win the hearts of the villagers’ through developmental works. These breakaway groups are reported to be constructing schools and holding Kangaroo courts in their areas to show their concern towards the villagers.
The TSPC members on May 16 held a kangaroo court at Mahuadanr in latehar and said to have resolved a family matter between Kunu Devi and Mohan Badaik.
According to a statement released by the self proclaimed zonal commander Alok ji, Kunu Devi had lodged a complaint with him that her husband Manoj Badaik has deserted her and had not seen her since the last six months.
After hearing both the sides, Alok Ji said that the matter was settled between the two with the joint efforts of the villagers and the TPC and the couple decided to live together.
The kangaroo court was held under tight security of the armed cadres of TSPC.
Similarly, a school is being opened by the PlFI cadres at Datoli village in Khunti as the villagers feel that there should be an English medium school for their children.
The police, though took a swift action and enquired about the funds, but the villagers did not provide a satisfying answer. “When we asked about the purpose of the construction, the villagers said that besides government school, they also want an English medium school in the area,” said Khunti SP M Tamilvanan.
“This is not clear yet, who are behind the construction. When we asked the villagers to provide us the accounts details, they sought some time to organize them. We have asked them to come up with the account details soon,” added the SP. Meanwhile, the construction has been stopped for the time being.
latehar and Khunti, once said to be a stronghold of Maoists have a significant presence of TSPC and PlFI cadres respectively. These splinter groups after putting a comfortable foot in the area now want to win sympathy of the villagers through welfare programs for the villages.
According to Alok ji, “We entered Mahuadanr a few months back but I have been attached to the people here since a long time. With the help of their support only, I have been able to put our foot in the area.”
These splinter groups are now trying to convince the villagers that they have been exploited since long and were kept away from the very basic amenities like heath and education. There is no one in the government to hear these poor villagers. According to those splinter groups, people fighting for their rights in organized form are also being labeled as terrorists by the police.
But according to the police officials, such moves by the Naxal outfits collapse very soon due to lack of commitment towards the people. They remain there till their interest are served and move away from there as soon as their interests are served.
“They definitely are trying to do so, but most of them do not succeed in long term as they do not get anybody to teach in those schools,” said ADG (Modernization and Training) SN Pradhan.
“Earlier also, they had started local self help group under the banner of Revolutionary People’s Committee where education was also a part of the scheme which they could not sustain for long. “They are more successful in other social welfare schemes, but they have not succeeded in the field of Education,” said Pradhan, also in charge of the anti-Naxal operation.
