In a major achievement for the security forces engaged in flushing out Maoists ultras, two dreaded Naxal commanders, involved in the sensational murder of a local political leader and mukhiya (Panchayat head), along with their another aide were nabbed from Saranda forests under Manoharpur police station of West Singhbhum district

Sources went on to inform that cash worth over Rs 28 lakh, collected from a private outsourcing company of the government-run Steel Authority of India ltd (SAIl) was recovered from them.

SP West Singhbhum Pankaj Kamboj informed that Amit Hansda and Suryam alias Siyaram, were involved in the murder of AJSU leader and Panchayat head Jairam Purti who was shot dead in Kadamdiha on July 24, and their aide Jermy Cherwa were nabbed based on a tip off.

"We cannot reveal on the status of the interrogation due to security reasons but yes we quizzing them to dig out further links," said a district police official. He said that the forces are targeting the different areas under the Saranda forest.

Police said that the security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxlites. "There has been a substantial increase in Maoist activities in this area. We are not much concerned about small acts of violence because these activities can be controlled by us, but the bigger attacks are worrisome," said a security official.

"As per information Jermy used to facilitate connections between some of the so called human rights activists and the Maoists. Amit was earlier active in Giridih, Hazaribagh and Bokaro and was involved in several cases of Naxal violence including the home-guard camp rifle loot of Hazaribagh in 2005," said Kamboj.
