National law varsity likely to get BCI affiliation

After a wait of four years, National University of Study in Research and law (NUSRl) can finally hope to get affiliation from Bar Council of India (BCI).

For the first time ever, the latter inspected the law cradle’s temporary campus at BIT Polytechnic campus where it is functioning since its establishment in 2010. Also, the team went through the ongoing permanent campus construction work of NUSRl at Nagri.A senior administration official said that the prescribed funds required for the affiliation was deposited to BCI, New Delhi in 2012 by university’s then Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor AK Koul.

“The team of four BCI members including BCI New Delhi members and local advocates reached our present campus by 11 am and then inspected our classrooms, computer laboratory, library and faculty. Also, they went through our records. By 4 30 pm, they left for our Nagri campus where they inspected the campus construction. We are hopeful of getting the full affiliation from BCI,” the official said.

According to sources, the first batch students of the university who would pass out from NUSRl in 2015 will not be able to appear in judicial competitive exams or practice in any of the state bar council if their degrees are not affiliated to Bar Council of India.“BCI’s recognition is very important for our career as a mere partial recognition of UGC is not enough for a national law university,” said a student of the university.

The members were assisted by the present VC Dr BC Nirmal along with the Registrar Alok Kumar Sengupta. An official mentioned, “It is a good indication that BCI finally accepted our request done through several correspondences and assured to grant us the affiliation at the earliest.” “Our first VC AK Koul had tried hard to get the affiliation. It is because of his initiation that BCI members decided to visit here,” said a non-teaching staff. The university is presently undergoing many hurdles regarding accommodating students within the BIT campus and in their hostels at Khelgaon and at a private apartment.

Also, none of the teaching and non-teaching staffs are absorbed on permanent basis. Few of the students and faculty claim that this National law University (NlU) is the costliest one in the list of NlUs of India.
