The merciless thrashing of a mentally-challenged man in Namkum on Monday was prominently heard in the State Minister’s Janta Darbar this Wednesday. Demands of stringent action against the perpetrators of the inhumane act and police personnel whose passivity allowed it to happen were raised by Vibhu Dutt Mishra, a physically-challenged teenager.

“I request that the instigators, along with the police personnel who remained bystanders, be strictly punished so that such instances are not repeated in the future,” he said to State Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi.

Upon his request, the Health Minister contacted Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar and instructed him to look into the matter and take necessary steps to bring the culprits and irresponsible police officials to the book.

“Rural SP is right now at the crime scene, looking into the matter personally. In light of the allegations of inaction, he has been asked to submit detailed report regarding the entire incident,” said Ranchi SSP.

He further added, “By far, prima facie, we have gathered that it was the local police forces which rescued the victim and rushed him to hospitals for medical attention. But even so, if the present police personnel are found guilty of inaction, strict action will be taken against them.”

Villagers of Sidrol were troubled by the beaten man who used to knock on their doors, wearing a saree and holding a blade, in the dead of the night and then run away. Taking him to be an evil spirit, they captured him on Monday night and then thrashed him brutally.

local police personnel did arrive in time but instead of stopping the mob, waited for more forces to arrive at the scene before taking any action, sources said.

“No one has been arrested till four in the evening; the villagers are disclosing any names. Complaint has been filed against 200 unidentified individuals. We are trying to nab all the culprits behind this,” informed Rural SP Rajkumar lakra.

A delegate of Forestry Department students from Birsa Agricultural University submitted a memorandum to State Agriculture Minister Randhir Kumar Singh demanding to make their course more job-oriented. Singh agreed to their pleas and assured them that State Government will take appropriate action in this regard after considering relevant policies in other states.

Both the Ministers attended various grievances related to law and order, health problems, land disputes and others during the Janta Darbar.
