Nagri villagers' bid to damage law varsity wall

National University of Study in Research and law (NUSRl) complained to the district administration on Thursday that the locals were damaging the boundary wall of the under-construction campus of the university at Nagri, on the outskirts of the State Capital.

The university missive to the administration came after Central Public Works Department (CPWD) engineers involved in the campus construction, informed it about the issue on May 27.

According to the CPWD letter to NUSRl, the local residents of Nagri village are continuously cutting the earth just adjacent to foundation of boundary wall on riverside due to which there may be a chance of overturning of the boundary wall. It may also lead to collapse of the wall, mentioned the letter.

A 1900 metres long boundary wall is being constructed around the Nagri campus. Speaking over the matter, the university Registrar Alok Kumar Sengupta said, “Yes we have approached Kanke police for the help since it concerns safety of our permanent infrastructure.”

Another official of the university said that a similar request letter has been given to Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ranchi Prabhat Kumar and SP Rural Surendra Kumar Jha.

However when Jha was contacted, he said that he is not at all aware about the matter. “We will soon do the verification of this complaint and visit the law campus at Nagri. The tentative time of our visit cannot be disclosed,” Kanke Police Station Officer Incharge Anand Kumar Singh said.

Notably, Jharkhand High Court has instructed CPWD to handover the first phase of campus construction to NUSRl by June 30 as the university has no space left at its temporary campus of Birla Institute of Technology Polytechnic campus, Mesra.

Referring the fact sources said, “We have no space at BIT Polytechnic building so our new batch for BA (Honours) llB (Honours) is likely to be accommodated at Nagri campus.”

NUSRl Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor BC Nirmal is making constant efforts to begin the academic session at the permanent infrastructure. Just after few days of his joining as VC in February, he visited Nagri campus and was disappointed by the slow campus construction. He had then set a deadline of April 30 before the CPWD.

Established in 2010, the first batch of BA (Honours) llB (Honours) will pass out in 2016. Professor Nirmal has constituted two committees for the internship and final placement of the students.
