Nag envisions 'one tree-one literate' mission for graduates

JMM candidate from Kanke Assembly seat Ashok Kumar Nag, considering himself a leader of society, aspires to make his constituency 100 per cent literate. He aims at making ‘one tree - one literate’ concept mandatory for every student in the state. The concept, according to Nag, is about enabling every graduate to make at least one person literate and plant one sapling.

“If I win, it will be mandatory for every student pursuing graduation, to plant one tree and teach one adult for three years and help them come out of the distress of illiteracy,” Nag said.

A teacher in Botany, Nag believes that it’s high time that intellectuals having some vision must enter politics and shift the focus of this state from revolution to development. Nag, an alumnus of Netarhat Residential School and gold medalist (MSc and BSc) from Ranchi University, is currently teaching Botany at his ‘alma mater’. Being an academician, it is my responsibility towards the society to help my people out leading a quality life, he added.

Nag says, he has been connected with the people of his constituency through social service since the last several years and has worked in the field of environment as well as education. He also participated actively with the people, be it the plantation drive of 1,000 saplings or protest for increasing number of subsidised lPG cylinders. “I have a work force of over 3,000 active students with me providing support with their new and innovative ideas for carrying out social service,” he says.

“Toilet for each household, Government schemes must be implemented properly, employment and storage facility for vegetable producers, providing employment to all by setting up an employment exchange in his constituency, refilling of abundant open cast mines at Khalari as well as proper road connectivity to the state capital with each and every village of my constituency are some of the issues which are on my priority list besides some of the conventional issues like water, electricity and security for all,” said Nag.

When asked about his strategy to counter Modi wave in the state, Nag rejected the idea and said, “Had there been Modi wave in the state, the BJP had not been entered into a pre-poll alliance with the AJSU party. A party which will contest on all the 81 Assembly seats will only get majority seats in the state; only JMM has the guts to contest on all the 81 Assembly seats.”

Nag is in taking on BJP candidate Dr. Jitu Charan Ram, a Homeopath Doctor by profession and Congress candidate Suresh Kumar Baitha who is a local businessman.

Shocked to find while campaigning in Bundu block of Ranchi district that there is not a single college for higher education, Nag has also taken a pledge of opening up at least 10 new colleges in the area he and his party comes to power.
