MV Rao's transfer challenged in High Court

Challenging the transfer of ADG (CID) MV Rao, an Interlocutory Application (IA) was filed in a criminal writ, filed earlier in the Jharkhand High Court against alleged fake encounter at Bakoria where12 men had been gunned down by a joint team of district police and CRPF's CoBRA battalion in Palamu. Petitioner Jawahar Yadav in his  petition has demanded a CBI inquiry for the killings of 12 innocent persons in the fake encounter staged by the State Police for some unknown reasons.

“Petitioner Pankaj Yadav in his IA has termed the transfer of Rao as illegal which has been done only to destroy the evidences,” said petitioner’s advocate Rajiv Kumar. The Court will be requested the take up the matter on Monday itself through special mention, he added.

ADG (CID) M.V. Rao, widely perceived as an upright officer, was transferred to Delhi on Wednesday barely a month after he was posted here, triggering suspicion that his three-week-old probe into the alleged 2015 police fake encounter in Palamu has been troubling the Government. He had reopened the probe merely three weeks back following directions from the Jharkhand High Court.

The Court while hearing the writ petition has also observed that the pace of investigation was very slow and the required formalities had not been completed so far which proves the police negligent in the matter. The court was also of the view that the matter was being complicated unnecessarily.
