The buzz word ‘Swacchta’ that has engrossed the citizens’ attention in the past few years to emphasise more on sanitation could only be achieved with the universal cooperation of every responsible human being, said, Kolhan University (KU), Vice-Chancellor, RPP Singh while addressing the participants during the  Swacchta Pakhwada 2017 programme at Vikash Bhawan on Wednesday.

The programme organised under the aegis of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, Food and Nutrition Board including Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit focusing on two core issues ‘Environmental sanitation and nutrition’ and ‘Personnel hygiene and nutrition’ covered some relevant matters.

“It is not just the responsibility of the respective State government to ensure cleanliness all around but an individual must change its mind set also to help the government in this social initiative. Before promoting such tasks on wider perspectives, it is mandatory for all such people to adopt the concept on priority basis,” added Singh, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

laying emphasis on personal hygiene and nutrition, State Consultant of UNICEF, Pratima Singh referring to the National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4) reports during the one day workshop said that 50 per cent children below 14 years are anemic. Women too here are found to be insipid with comparatively less hemoglobin (HB) than that the average rate 12 HB.

Even after so many years, Jharkhand is still entangled in the malnutrition web where 45 per cent children are malnourished due to some or the other reasons. “People residing in the rural areas across the State lack access to clean drinking water. Kids in small hamlets are even now exposed to animal, human excreta that are prominent reasons for less immunity power among those children. Poor hygienic practices, lack of multi vitamins including awareness must be ensured on the priority basis,” added Singh.

Similarly, menstrual hygiene management is another prime area of concern that needs proper attention from different segments of the society especially from the female community. In order to curb the dropout rate among girls, stop early child marriages, control diseases related to reproductive problems menstrual cleanliness methodologies must be espoused by women folks.

In the same way, concisely explaining several aspects of maintaining clean and green environment, solid waste management specialist of JUIDCO, Dr. Ranvijay Singh mentioned that proper segregation and disposal of waste must be done as per the solid waste management act. Mechanized solid waste management system is one basic practice and the need of an hour.
