Murmu, Besra launch Jharkhand Front

With the State Assembly election expected to be held any time from now, the political re-alignments seems to be the toast of the season. On the pretext of championing the cause of adivasis and moolvasis tribal leaders Salkhan Murmu, Surya Singh Besra, and Shailendra Maithy have joined hands to form a new front.

The former BJP leaders Murmu and Besra have jointly floated 'Jharkhand Front' primarily to take up issues pertaining to the tribals and non-tribals (read moolvasis). Addressing newspersons, the two leaders said that even after speration of Jharkhand the plight of the tribal remains the same. Moreover, lack of domicile policy in the State has spoiled the chances of the youths, of both the category, in securing State Government jobs. "Hence, we demand formation of a domicile policy in the larger interest of the two sections," conceded the two veterans of Jharkhand politics.

Former MlA Besra, who resigned from the undivided Bihar assembly about two decades ago to protest the then Bihar Chief Minister laloo Prasad Yadav's statement that separate Jharkhand state will be created on his body cited examples of several states including Assam and neighbouring Bihar, said the front will work for the cause of the tribal community together.

"The national level parties have conspired to wipe all the regional parties. Even Shibu and Babulal Marandi have bowed down in favour of them. We want to unite the tribal community and fight for their rights ," said Salkhan Murmu. "I am of the opinion that all the regional parties associated with the Jharkhand movement must come on common platform and contest elections this time. However, this is possible only if we join hands," asserted Salkhan.

It may be mentioned that earlier to an attempt was made to bring all the regional parties during the 2005 Assembly elections but everything turned out to be damp squib.
