Municipal roads turn into murky drains in Min's constituency

Published on:

The Government’s insensitivity towards the agonies of people, absolute lack of coordination between agencies doing civic work in the city and an utter failure of State to provide relief to people — the municipal roads from ward no 32 to 37 in the present situation portray the phenomena best in their own way.

The roads in these wards dug up five feet deep over 10 months ago for sewerage drainage project have turned into huge open drains filled with mud and filth and with incessant rainfall in the recent days the situation has become worse that one could have imagined.

People are finding it difficult to even walk on the paths that have become a maze of quagmires for vehicles that often try to cross through it and get stuck in the mud most often.

Irked with the situation, residents of localities such as ITI Bajra, Krishna Nagar, Hesal, Piska More, Refugee Colony have tried their best to streamline the mess yet neither the Urban Development Minister, C P Singh nor the civic body personnel have an answer as to when these pits will be filled up. In spite of several meetings, signature campaigns, the pleas of the residents have fallen into the deaf ears. “We only get assurance for this. The fact is that neither the Minister nor the RMC is in a mood to settle down this. The careless attitude of the civic body personnel can be justified from the fact that despite debarring Jyoti Infra Tech, the company handling the sewerage drainage project, no strict action is taken against the company,” said, one Uttam Yadav, a resident of ward no 34.

“Even the extension deadline given to the company is not clear. Considering the work of the company it should have been blacklisted way back,” added Yadav.

The State Capital where officials are gearing up to present a blueprint of ‘Smart City’ plan in a short time, even though officials appeared hardly alarmed about this vital civic problem. Considering the fact that sewerage drainage project requires ample time to get complete, Deputy Mayor, Sanjiv Vijayawargia, said, “We are aware about the problem but land restoration project work can be taken up only after monsoon season. Moreover, we cannot simply blame the company for the delay considering the geological features. Even then, we are putting pressure on the company to line up the work at the earliest. The civic work will be carried out at these places accordingly.”
