'Multi-language education at primary level needed'

Published on:
The students of remote areas of Jharkhand and adjoining states especially belonging to different tribes are weaker in knowledge than the students of other communities. In these states teaching starts in Hindi even at primary level which is different from their own local language and it is the root cause of this difference. This inference has been drawn by a joint study done by NGOs NBJK, SPAR and CINI.
The team of these three NGOs worked on this project for more than three months and then it has started advocacy program to try to know the reaction of different sections of the society on their conclusion. In Amrit Nagar Office of NBJK on Tuesday one such advocacy program was organized.
In this program Vinod Horra and Manisha Jamuwar of SPAR presented the figures and facts of their team’s research. They said that in remote areas there are less openings for a child in comparison to the towns so most of them remain unaware of our mother tongue Hindi. When they go to school it becomes hard to learn the things in a new language.
They also gave some examples where villagers have arranged primary education for their children in local language and the result of their experiment is encouraging. Both advocated that the society and government should also think about multi-language education because it will help in making the base strong of our coming generation.
Prabhunath Singh, M Giri and BN Singh of NBJK said that all three NGOs involved in this research work are already working in the field of child care and education. The inferences of this research work have shown us a way of better earlier child care. Primary education in the local language of the child will not only prove beneficial for them but it will also help in preserving the languages of different regions and tribes.
